Looking Great In Your Wedding Photos September 17, 2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — sweetmomentsbythediamondspecialists @ 4:08 pm

Your wedding day is coming up and there will be dozens and dozens of photos taken of you. What pressure!

What can you do to assure that all the money spent of your photographer and wedding albums will be well worth its cost. How can you look great in the photos?

Remember blond haired Carson Kressley from “Queer Eye For the Straight Guy”? Well Carson has some tips for you.

Look for past photos of yourself that you really like. Practice the same pose as in the pictures. Figure out which is your “best side” and practice posing showing that side.

Carson says to avoid wearing bulky things like scarves and wraps in your picture. It is a distraction from your face. He also says to avoid over-done make-up and hairstyles that make you look like someone else. You want to be able to recognize yourself as you look back at your albums.

Do not try too hard when posing, is his last suggestion. He said relax and be yourself.

It’s your wedding day.  The make-up artist has left and it is time put put your gown on.  Oops, the gown brushes your impeccable face and there on the pristine white is a smudge of face powder! What do you do?

Jennifer Higgins, known as Miss Oops recommends that you use a Miss Oops Rescue Sponge and dry rub the stain. The sponge is known to remove powder marks and deodorant stains to an almost unnoticeable state.

Here are more tips:

-         Every bride needs an Emergency Kit.  The Kit should include Vaseline (To keep your lips from sticking to your teeth when you smile), Miss Oops Rescue Sponges, Mishap Tape (Great to hold up strapless gowns; keeps straps in place and repair fallen hems); and hand lotion (Everyone will be looking at your hands. The lotion will keep it soft and smooth)

-         To avoid panty lines, wear a neutral colored thong (No, not white. White will show through the dress).

-         Use chicken cutlets to get a nice shape in the bra area.  Secure them with Mishap Tapes.

-         DO NOT pop any pimples that may appear on or near the wedding day.  She suggest that you wash the pimple and use a cover-up.  Then add a bronzer, a little bit of powder and some blush.

The greatest piece of advice given is to enjoy your wedding day.  If a mishap occur, take of it, let it go, smile and move on. Do not let small things ruin this important experience.

Not So Sweet Moment For 51 Brides August 13, 2009

Fifty-one brides were left without wedding gowns, when a Colorado bridal shop suddenly closed its doors.  The Fort Collins Police Department received complaints from brides saying that they had purchased gowns from Mountain Avenue Bridal and now were unable to pick them up.

Apparently, owner, Patty Burling, never ordered their gowns.  When employees of the store tried to help fit these distressed brides with gowns, they found only the 50 samples that were in the store to work with.  Only one bride took a sample gown. Two others took accessories.

Sad news from these brides are popping up all over the internet.  One bride said that she paid $800 for her gown. Another bride related how shocked she was to find that she had no gown when her wedding was only two weeks away.

The police are investigating Burling who also left Wyoming teens without prom dresses earlier this year.  It is still unclear as to the charges that will be filed against her.

Every year, the Today Show holds a Today Throws A Wedding Contest. Couples take part in a competition, and the couple with the most votes wins a complete wedding: reception, honeymoon, wedding rings, cake, gown, tux, attendants attire and other wedding accessories, planned by the viewers. The 2009 winning couple is Leigh Daniels and Nick Cordes. Their journey from their initial meeting up to their fabulous wedding day is truly a story to tell.

Nick and Leigh3

In 2003, Nick and Leigh, both collegiate track stars, met at the Olympic Development Program camp. Both held dreams to run in the Olympics. The rigorous camp demanded much of their athletes. There was no time for distractions. There was no dating allowed.

As fate would guide them, Nick and Leigh were drawn together and had their first secret date in a parking lot. The joy of spending time together ended the Olympic dream for both of them, when a year later, they were expelled from camp. The No Dating ruled was enforced.

Six years later, still together, they happily entered the Today Show contest. They were heading for their ultimate dream. After 66,000 votes were cast, Nick and Leigh were declared the winners and on July 15th had the wedding of everyone’s dreams. Here are a few details of the wedding:

1.  Check out the gown and tux:

Necklace on loan from De Beers Platinum 45.81 cts of diamonds.

2.  Check out the rings:

3.  Cake: chocolate butter cream with caramel frosting

4.  Receiption: Grand Ballroom at the Plaza Hotel, NY

5.  Honeymoon: Australia. Fly business class and stay at the deluxe resort, Qualia.

To add true romance to this fairytale love story, here are their vows pledged to each other at the ceremony:

Nick: “You look amazing! I am lucky to know you and am even luckier to be marrying you. We’ve been together for six years now, and I look forward to the next 60. You are an amazing person. You taught me a different and better way to live, and I promise to put God first, and keep that as the centerpiece of our relationship. In the beginning, we were best friends; we moved on to training partners, and I would be most proud to call you my wife.”

Leigh: “I feel so blessed to be standing in front of my best friend, my trainer partner, soul mate, and to be looking forward to spending the rest of my life by your side. I look forward to a life of running with our dogs, eating chicken spinach surprise, hanging out with those that we love and just being together.”

WHAT A LOVE STORY! Sigh.

Denise’s Story July 9, 2009

Here’s a sweet story sent to us by Denise:

Jerry and Denise had always talked about getting married, and knew right away that they were meant for each other. The relationship blossomed fast, but faced so many ups-and-downs along the way. Since Jerry has been working two jobs, they hardly get “quality time” together. So, most of our Friday nights or weekend nights, we spend at the the beach in our community (Iroquois Point), just watching the sun set and listening to the waves crashing….relaxing together.
On this particular night, he worked late and told her that he was really stressed from the week, and if they could go hang out at the beach when he got home from work. Without Denise knowing, Jerry had picked up the ring earlier that day, and called her parents to ask for her hand in marriage before returning home. They happily accepted, and waited for the “good news” call.
Jerry came home and showered, and then received a call for his work. Denise was getting really antsy already, as she wanted to go sit on the beach and relax after a long week! As they approached the cabanas at the beach, they realized that it started raining and ALL the cabanas were taken, which NEVER happens when we go…Denise told him “we’ll just sit in the car and it didnt matter”, but he kept insisting they find a cabana with chairs and a table. They finally found one that was open, and was the one they usually went to.
They sat there listening to music, and eating chicken from the KFC bucket. Denise got up to change the radio station. When she sat back down, she sat on something that was big and bulky and said “ow!” She took it out and it was a small black box. She started to get nervous, so she handed the box back to Jerry, not knowing what to do…
From there, he got down on one knee, nervous and all, and proposed….

Confetti Hearts and the Fated Love Connection June 24, 2009

Filed under: How We MEt — diamonddude1 @ 5:07 pm

Peter and Vanessa were as far apart physically as not to have ever met. She was from Australia and he was in the Navy at sea for months at a time.

Theirs was a chance meeting, perhaps they were fated to meet. Peter had just docked at Pearl Harbor after a three month trip and with his friends went to rent a car. Vanessa and her friends were at the end of their vacation in Hawaii and were returning their rental car and that is where they met.

It was not the instant sparks flying between them but the two groups had a nice conversation and it was agreed that they should meet for drinks that evening.

As it turned out Peter and his friends had dinner and unwinding from their long voyage went to sleep early forgetting about their date with the girls.

The next day Peter had gone to Sears in Ala Moana and ran into Vanessa. What are the chances for such an encounter? Can you imagine form Australia and in Sears on your last day in Hawaii? Anyway she mentioned to Peter that they had been waiting at the restaurant for them the night before and were disappointed when they did not show. Peter apologized and int the ensuing conversation found that they had a lot in common. They had lunch and spent the afternoon together getting all more comfortable with each other. When it was time to leave they agreed to keep in touch with each other.

This was a time just before email so communication was done by mail and phone.Peter could not forget Vanessa and decided it did not hurt to try a long distance relationship. He had sent her a long letter and had filled it with tiny confetti hearts.

Vanessa had also felt their relationship growing and upon receiving his letter excitedly tore it open. It had been a still day but as soon as she open the letter a gust of wind took all the little hearts and blew them all over the room. Vanessa was happy to hear from him and smiled as she watched the hearts float to the carpet. After reading his letter for the fourth time she proceed to pick up the hearts saving each one.

As well as she was able to clean up the confetti hearts she would still find a wayward heart from time to time reminding her of Peter and prompting her to write a letter. The letters between them increase, ensued by lengthy, expensive phone calls.

They decided that a long distance relationship was not working and got married a year after first meeting.

Banyan Court June 17, 2009

June 5, 2009, Shaun and Dian were supposed to meet their friends at the Banyon Court (Moana Surfrider) to celebrate a friend’s birthday. They were late after being stuck in the Waikiki traffic for 30 minutes.

When they arrived, no one was there. Acting bewildered, Shaun called his friend on his cell, pretended to be upset as he was told that the fake dinner was called off. He grumbled to Dian that all that driving in traffic was “for nothing”. He told her that he understood the situation, but was just really upset about it all. He then suggested that they have a drink to calm himself down.

I do not know how many of you are familiar with the Banyan Court. It is wonderful. You sit outdoors at little tables, under a huge banyan tree, looking out to the sea. Very romantic. But the problem with the Court is that the best tables are very hard to get…in fact, just getting a table is difficult.

Luckily, Shaun found a friend who worked there who helped him save a table and acted as ring bearer.

Back to the story…After they sat and ordered some drinks, the waiter (Shaun’s friend) brought the ring box and set it on the table.

Dian looked at the ring box and said, “What is this?” “Shaun? What is this?” When she looked at Shaun, he was on one knee (the one that wasn’t injured in a surfing accident) and asked her to marry him.

After, she said, “yes”. He told her that their friends and both of their families were at another location waiting to help them celebrate their engagement. Shaun wanted the proposal part to be private.

The Ultimate Candlelight Proposal June 16, 2009

Shelly was the love of his life and meant the world to him. Brandon wanted to make this a very memorable romantic proposal.

Brandon’s friend worked at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Hotel and was in charge of the Lagoon area. At night the Lagoon was closed to the public which made it a perfect location for a romantic setting.

Brandon was lucky to have friends that were more than happy to help him with make this important change in his life.

Shelly loved candles. Little did she expect to see what would happen next. Brandon’s friends worked feverishly to set up hundreds of candles on the Lagoon’s beach area.

As night approached the candles were lit and Brandon led Shelly to a illuminating sight of candles reflecting off the water that just simply took her breath away. This was the perfect ambiance.

Shelly said yes.

The Best Chicken Dinner Ever! June 12, 2009

Brandon was preparing to propose to Sara and was racking his brain trying to think of a good way to present the diamond ring as a surprise.

They had been together for five years living together for the last two. As a couple they were very compatible and she knew him inside and out. Trying to surprise her was not going to be an easy task.

He had thought about making it special by going out to a nice restaurant but knew that she would have been suspicious since they rarely go out. Romantic locations was also out or the question.

Occasionally Sara would call him at work and ask him to pick up dinner and bring it home. That day she had asked him to pick up Kentucky Fried chicken for dinner.

It then occurred to him that this was the chance he was looking for. He opened the box of chicken and in the middle in a special colored cellophane wrapping, inserted the diamond ring.

When he arrived home he dropped off the chicken on the kitchen table and told her he was going to change and wash up before dinner but for her to start while it was still warm.

He left the room and waited just outside to hear her ask what was in her dinner. It was followed by shrill, exuberant scream. She was very happy and so was he.
